The Challenge
You may know The Royal Beard Barber Co. in downtown Utica. A barbershop with a row house inspired interior aesthetic covered in classic Detroit memorabilia. The shop’s owner decided to transform the back half of the barber shop into a record store, giving clients and visitors a place to browse vinyl while keeping the barbershop’s cool, authentic vibe. Having collaborated on The Royal Beard Barber Co. logo previously, the owner reached out again to create a visual identity for Royal Beard Records. The goal was to craft a logo that could stand on its own while clearly feeling like a “sister company” to the barber shop.
The Solution
Drawing inspiration from the existing barber shop branding, we maintained the bold, heritage-driven typography while introducing visual elements that instantly communicate something different. A vinyl record and sound waves were integrated into the design, complementing the brands original aesthetic while giving the record store its own distinct personality. The result is a logo that works seamlessly on signage, merchandise, and promotional materials, while clearly connecting back to The Royal Beard family.

The Result
Royal Beard Records now has a strong, recognizable logo that honors its barbershop roots while carving out a unique identity in the local vinyl collecting scene. The cohesion between the two brands allows them to cross-promote naturally, giving customers a memorable and consistent brand experience. The new logo positions the record store for both immediate local recognition and long-term brand growth alongside its well-established sister business.
